CaroVin is English language wine classes in Lyon, created and run by British American sommelière Caroline Conner. This is the only service in Lyon providing English language wine tastings with a native speaker.
I became interested in wine while studying archaeology and anthropology at the University of Oxford, where I was a member of the Oxford Blind Tasting Society. I competed in the 2009 Varsity Blind Tasting Match against Cambridge and awarded Top Taster in the 2009. University was followed by a cuisine and pastry diploma at Le Cordon Bleu in London, during which time I also began to further study wine with the Wine and Spirits Education Trust. In 2012 I was awarded my WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wine and Spirits.
I have lived and worked in food and wine in London, Paris, San Francisco, and now Lyon. My approach to wine tasting is inspired by my blind tasting experience, focusing on teaching wine analysis skills in an approachable and fun way. I moved from California to Lyon in 2017 to be in the famed culinary capital of France, and I love living in the Croix-Rousse. My favorite things about Lyon are staircases, terracotta rooftops, proximity to vineyards, the local market, and my flat in an old silk factory.
I am a regular contributor for This is Lyon, where I write about food and wine. My desert island wine is Mosel Riesling, not sorry.
